. What is a  Syllable ?

A syllable is a sound part of a word.

It is how the word is spoken, not how it is written.

Say the word slowly.
Listen to how your mouth moves.


One  Syllable  Words

(Say once slowly, once normally)

 Word  Stress

In English, one part is stronger.

Say it louder and clearer.
 

Examples (capital = stress):

  • IM-por-tant
     

Do not make every part equal.

Pronunciation Drill 

Say aloud:
 

  1. The tay-bul is clean.

  2. I use a pen-sil in class.

  3. My tee-cher is kind.

  4. I like my fa-mi-lee.

  5. This is im-por-tant work.
     

Say slowly first.
Then say it naturally.
